Carlisle United 0-3 Tottenham: Vertonghen, Townsend & Sigurdsson strikes see Spurs cruise through

Tottenham moved into the last 16 of the League Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over Carlisle United at Brunton Park on Wednesday night.

Andre Villas-Boas' men dominated the first half and Clint Dempsey had an effort cleared off the line before defender Jan Vertonghen headed home Gylfi Sigurdsson’s cross on 37 minutes for his first Spurs goal.

The hosts missed a couple of chances to equalize and were made to pay when Andros Townsend hammered home an impressive long range strike shortly after the break before Sigurdsson struck to seal victory in the closing stages.

Carlisle, which came into the game on the back of four unbeaten games in League One, made one change to its side. Kallum Higginbotham, the forward on loan from Huddersfield, replaced cup-tied Joe Garner.

Tottenham made eight changes from its Premier League victory over QPR. Carlo Cudicini was a surprise choice in goal, meaning Hugo Lloris missed out on a chance for game time, while youngsters Adam Smith and Ryan Mason were handed starts.

The match started in a lively fashion, with both sides enjoying half chances before Iago Falque forced a fine save from Mark Gillespie as a chance presented itself after a corner.

Sigurdsson also threatened when he found the side netting with a threatening effort on 13 minutes and Townsend also enjoyed a good start to the match. The winger combined with both Dempsey and Sigurdsson to provide Mason a chance but he could only shoot off target.

Townsend was again involved when he crossed for Dempsey in the 25th minute, but the American headed a presentable chance over the crossbar.

The away side was totally dominating proceedings and the ex-Fulham man saw another effort cleared off the line two minutes later after Mason’s initial shot was parried by Gillespie.

It was only a matter of time until the first goal arrived for Spurs and it came through Vertonghen. Sigurdsson sent in a delicious cross from the right-hand side and the Belgian defender’s looping header beat Gillespie.

The hosts launched an immediate response and squandered two chances to equalize when Matt Robson took too long to pull the trigger inside the box and then Higginbotham shot wide moments later, meaning the visitors deservedly went in 1-0 ahead at half-time.

Carlisle wasted another good opportunity to equalize three minutes after the restart when Danny Cadamarteri shot wide from 20 yards when he would have been wiser passing to Higginbotham, who was in good space on his left.

That miss would prove costly when Tottenham grabbed an impressive second goal through Townsend on 53 minutes. The 21-year-old picked up possession on the halfway line, cruised past two weak challenges and hammered a shot into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Mason was involved all night and came close to getting a goal to show for his efforts but his header from Smith’s cross was scrambled away by Gillespie.

The youngster had another opportunity to score with another header on 70 minutes, this time from Townsend’s cross but Gillespie tipped his effort onto the crossbar and impressively saved Sigurdsson’s attempt from the rebound too.

Cadamarteri forced Cudicini into a routine stop at the other end with 15 minutes to go, as both sides utilized their substitutes in the latter stages.

One of the Spurs subs, Jonathan Obika, almost made an instant impression when Gillespie cannoned a clearance against the young forward and the keeper was fortunate to see the ball rebound safely into his arms.

A third goal did arrive with just two minutes left on the clock. Another sub, Kyle Walker, cut in from the left-hand side after being found by Falque and dinked in an inviting cross, which Sigurdsson headed home from close range.

The Frenchman gave the hosts the lead five minutes before halftime with a chip over the goalkeeper and other strikes, from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andrey Arshavin, a double from Theo Walcott and one for Ignasi Miquel, settled the game, with substitute Callum Bell notching a consolation strike for the visitors.

Arsene Wenger, as expected in the League Cup, named a young lineup though some bigger names, including Giroud, Walcott and Arshavin, also started, while Oxlade-Chamberlain was in midfield with Nico Yennaris and Francis Coquelin.

Damian Martinez started in goal, while Miquel, Johan Djourou and Andre Santos were joined by Martin Angha. On the subs bench, promising youngsters Serge Gnabry and Thomas Eisfeld were accompanied by Marouane Chamakh and Emmanuel Frimpong, in his first match of the season.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors, after Frank Moussa got down the line before clipping a cross into the box. Stephen Elliot headed wide, with teammate Gary McSheffrey appearing to get in his way.

But the hosts weren't on the back foot for long, and really should have been ahead through contract rebel Walcott. The ball fell kindly for the winger inside the area, but he totally missed the ball after a wild kick at it.

Arsenal, and Arshavin in particular, began to step it up a gear - though the final ball was still lacking. Shots from the edge of the box were blocked or crosses were overhit, while Coventry were forcing Martinez into some work, though most of it was fairly routine stuff for the Gunners man.

But in the 39th minute, Arsenal did take the lead, with Giroud scoring his first for the club. The French striker was played in with a great ball from Coquelin, and after taking touch he elegantly chipped the ball over the onrushing Joe Murphy.

The Gunners almost had an acrobatic second minutes later, when Giroud flicked on Walcott's cross for Miquel to send an overhead kick just wide of Murphy's goal, but they had to be content with a one goal lead at half-time.

Five minutes into the second half, the hosts had a great chance to extend their lead from the penalty spot after Arshavin was bundled over by Jordon Clarke after the defender misplaced a header back to Murphy.

After a momentary pause following two pitch invaders from the crowd, Giroud stepped up from 12 yards, but his effort was well saved by Murphy, low to his right-hand side.

From the resulting corner, Miquel again came close, hitting the top of the bar with his header from Walcott's cross. But again, the Gunners were not to be denied, as they extended their lead in the 57th minute.

Oxlade-Chamberlain cut in from the left before playing a nice one-two with Santos, and hit a scorcher from 25 yards into the top-corner past the helpless Murphy.

And Arsenal soon put the game beyond doubt, with Arshavin being played in by Giroud before hitting a low shot past Murphy to all but seal progression into the next round with half an hour to play.

With a little over 15 minutes to go, Walcott also got on the scoresheet, cutting in from the right-wing, driving at the defence before lashing a shot into the far corner.

Coventry did get something for its travelling fans to cheer, sneaking a consolation as substitute Ball got in between Miquel and Djourou unnoticed to tap home from six yards.

But the Gunners responded immediately, with Miquel making amends for his sloppy play at the back to nod home Arshavin's cross.

Walcott completed the rout into added time, this time cutting in from the left in a similar fashion to his first before curling a shot into the far corner to the delight of the home fans still in the ground.

Manchester United 2-1 Newcastle: Anderson and Cleverley strikes see hosts progress

The duo produced two impressive goals to put the Red Devils ahead and Sir Alex Ferguson's men held on despite a Papiss Cisse-led fightback in the second half at Old Trafford

 

The Red Devils were on top for the majority of the first half, and should have took advantage when Anderson and Tom Cleverley both had brilliant chances, but did eventually take the lead courtesy of a superb strike from the Brazilian.

Alan Pardew's men tried to work their way back into the clash after the break, having a couple of decent chances, but Cleverley fired home to extent the hosts' lead. Papiss Cisse pulled a goal back with a half hour left, but it wasn't enough to stop his side crashing out.

Sir Alex Ferguson named a strong lineup for the tie at Old Trafford, with Wayne Rooney returning from injury as well as Darren Fletcher, Danny Welbeck, Chicharito and David de Gea all starting.

The visitors made a number of changes from his first-team side that beat Norwich in the Premier League, with a few unfamiliar faces among the starters, though Fabricio Coloccini and Cheick Tiote both returned.

After the home side dominated the opening ten minutes, the Magpies had the first real chance of the game when Dan Gosling volleyed over from six-yards out. The midfielder had time and space to pick his spot but sliced the effort well wide after Shola Ameobi's nod down.

Moments later the hosts appealed for a penalty after Rooney was tripped in the area, but nothing was given. Then they came forward again as Anderson broke from midfield, wasting a great chance by shooting wide.

Ferguson's men continued to play the better football, though Newcastle looked dangerous on the counter and had a number of decent openings but failed to create a final chance. Welbeck, however, managed to muster a shooting opportunity as he fired a strike towards the corner which Elliot parried away.

Ten minutes before halftime Cleverley made an complete mess of a brilliant opening, from which he should have put his side 1-0 up. After some brilliant play from Chicharito on the right-hand-side, and some neat touches from Rooney and Welbeck, the England midfielder was left with a one-on-one with Elliott from no more than three yards out, but somehow shot wide.

United did take the lead just before the break, though, as Brazilian midfielder Anderson held off a challenge from his man before smashing the ball into the top corner with his left boot from outside the box, via a touch from the post, after picking it up from Fletcher.

Two minutes after halftime the former Benfica man had a good chance to bag a second. He started the move with a great ball to Welbeck on the left flank. He then returned the favor, but Anderson lashed his first-time strike over the bar.

As Ferguson's men looked to push home their slight dominance, it was the visiting team that had the next good opening as Haris Vuckic smartly worked his way past Michael Keane in the box before curling a strike just past the post.

They were left to rue that miss just under five minutes later. Welbeck picked up the ball on the edge of the box and shifted it central to Cleverley, who riffled a strike into the corner just out of Elliot's reach.

The two-goal cushion didn't last long however, as Cisse came off the bench and made an instant impact by rising highest to head home from Shane Ferguson's cross to pull one back.

With a comeback looking on, as Newcastle pushed forward, Chicharito almost gave the home side the perfect response, hitting the bar from a narrow angle with a powerful effort, before Anderson thundered a deflected shot not far over the bar.

The Magpies continued to look for an equalizer, throwing numerous balls into the United box for Ameobi and Cisse to attack. The latter also crashed the bar with a fantastic overhead kick after he chested the ball up for himself just inside the box.

Ferguson's men, however, held off other half-chances from the visitors late on, securing the win and march on to the next round.

Wayne Rooney is set to make his long-awaited comeback for Manchester United - on Wednesday.

Rooney has been out of action since suffering a gruesome, deep gash to his right thigh on August 25 in an accidental clash with Fulham's Hugo Rodallega.

But the England striker has stepped up his training in recent days and is in line to be named on the bench for the Captial One Cup tie against Newcastle at Old Trafford.

With the wound - which required 11 stitches - now healed, Rooney has resumed full training and is desperate to make his return as soon as possible.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be briefed by his medical staff before deciding whether to include Rooney among his substitutes, but right now the striker looks likely to feature.

If Rooney does figure, it will be a huge boost for United - as well as England, ahead of next month's back-to-back World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland.

Ferguson is set to make wholesale change for the third round tie, taking the opportunity to rest established players rested ahead of Saturday's home date with in-form Tottenham.

United are hopeful that skipper Nemanja Vidic, who missed Sunday's win at Liverpool with a knee injury, will recover in time, but could be without a recognised centre-back against Newcastle.

Leeds 2-1 Everton: Toffees' name isn't on League Cup, whatever it's called

Late Distin goal gives Moyes' men some hope but they were second best to their Championship hosts, who deserve their spot in the last 16

David Moyes reckons some of his understudies failed their big audition as Everton were dumped out by Leeds.

Moyes made six changes, handing a debut to Francisco Junior and a first start to Bryan Oviedo, and he was disappointed by Everton’s poor performance at Elland Road.

The unhappy Blues boss, who also hooked Magaye Gueye at half-time, was gutted at seeing Everton blow their best chance of silverware after their great start to the season.

Everton’s wait to win the League Cup - whoever it's sponsored by - goes on, and Moyes said: “These boys are in the squad and they have got to be able to show when players get injured in the first team that they can come in and play.

“If you don’t use them, then what’s the point in having them?

“I’ve seen a bit [tonight]. It’s a big place to come and play and Leeds always has been.

“One or two did OK, and one or two didn’t.

“We started terribly and we gave Leeds the initiative. Because of that we probably lost the game in the opening 20 minutes of the game because of the way we started.”

Leeds boss Neil Warnock claimed the upset was even better than knocking Leeds out of both cups in 2002-03 with Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United.

“This is as good a performance and result as I have every had in the cups,” beamed the Leeds boss.

“I had a great run with Sheffield, but I just think with the circumstances here, the injuries and Everton being such a good side, that this is better.”

Everton did not field an Englishman in their starting line-up for the first time and Moyes’ decision to start with some of his big hitters on the bench appeared to motivate Leeds.

Roared on by the packed Kop, Leeds, inspired by the tireless El-Hadji Diouf, the peerless Rodolph Austin and the ageless Michael Brown, harried Everton and took the lead in the fourth minute.

Austin won the ball, knocking it to Aidan White and the Irishman darted between Marouane Fellaini and Sylvain Distin before coolly planting the ball left-footed into the top corner for his first Leeds goal on his 74th appearance.

With Brown dominating Fellaini, only Jan Mucha stood up to Leeds and he saved a shot from White before parrying Luciano Becchio’s header on the line, with Steven Naismith completing the clearance.

Everton improved in the second half, although that would not have been hard, and substitute Steven Pienaar blazed over from their first decent chance.

Naismith then wastefully headed wide at the back post and Victor Anichebe turned and shot just wide.

Despite Everton’s revival, Leeds scored a second on 69 minutes when Diouf picked out Danny Pugh from a free-kick on the left-hand side of the area and his shot was touched home by Austin.

Everton pulled one back nine minutes from time when Anichebe, their only decent outfield player, flicked on a free-kick for Distin to head home, but Leeds deservedly hung on for a famous win.

It's a fair bet John Terry’s FA hearing is not proving as easy for him as this was.
The Chelsea captain made up for the time he has missed training with a sedate workout against Stale Solbakken’s sheep in Wolves clothing.
He was also back among friends after the widespread indifference to which he called time on his England career.
After another six hours at Wembley in front of that four-man disciplinary commision – and with Arsenal away on Sunday – it was a surprise to some that Terry was named in the Chelsea side for this third-round tie.
But then with the eyes of the football world on him Terry has never been one to hide.
He has proven that on several occasions before and it’s a near certainty that he would have been determined to play here.
The Blues’ faithful welcomed his warmly back into the bosom of the Chelsea family and chants of ‘One England captain’ rang around the stadium.
He went on to enjoy a few dances with Wolves as the Blues racked up their biggest win since beating Ipswich 7-0 in the FA Cup in January 2011.

 Terry is expecting a far more difficult end to the week with his camp - and his club - fearing a big ban at the hands of the Football Association.
Blues assistant boss Eddie Newton insisted afterwards that there was never any doubt about Terry playing.
He said: “We wanted John to start. Obviously, with everything happening with the FA, we had to see how it panned out.
“We had a phone call he was making his way back from the FA nice and early so it wasn’t last minute dot com.
“We’d covered all the bases, all the scenarios, and the best one happened.”
Solbakken defended his decision to make 10 changes from his weekend side for this one.
He said: “I think the fans will understand. That is why I put the squad on our club website the day before. The fans understand the demands of the squad.”
The match itself was over as a contest as early as the fourth minute when Gary Cahill headed home at the far post.
Ronald Zubar’s foul on Victor Moses allowed Juan Mata to float in a free-kick that the England defender despatched with the minimum of fuss.
It was a taste of things to come as Chelsea strolled through what masqueraded as the Wolves ­backline at will.
Three minutes later, Oriol Romeu sent in a low daisy cutter that Wanderers keeper Dorus de Vries did well to parry.
Lucas Piazon, however, was fastest to the rebound.
The Brazilian, making his debut, cut the ball back to Ryan Bertrand and the youngster let fly with an effort to give De Vries no chance.

 Already this was painful for the Wolves fans that had made the journey south.
You had to wonder why Solbakken had ripped up the side that had won away at ­Peterborough in the league at the weekend.
He will argue that this was the fifth of six games in 16 days for his men.
Yet what about the fans who had paid to see their team at the Bridge?
Will they be happy about seeing their club so utterly embarrassed?
And make no mistake they were, with the match over as a contest before some spectators had even taken their seats.
Goal No.3 came when Mata - a class apart from anyone on the opposing side - played a one-two with Fernando Torres and sent the ball beyond De Vries on 16 minutes.

 By that point you really did wonder how many Chelsea would score by half time let alone the end of the match.
Torres, however, still lacks confidence. At anything like his best he would have controlled an 18th-minute ball into the box and put it beyond De Vreis before the Wolves keeper had time to blink.
Last night’s Torres allowed defender Danny Batth to make a challenge and worry him out of it.
Amazingly, Wolves then had a couple of chances to get back into it. First, David Davis forced Ross Turnbull to push a long-range effort over the bar.
Then midfielder Slawomir Peszko rounded keeper Turnbull, but then hit the side netting with the goal at his mercy.
Those chances had come, however, because Chelsea had the cigars out. Roberto Di Matteo’s men responded through Mata, who sent a 33rd-minute free-kick narrowly wide.
Piazon narrowly failed to reach a Torres ball across the six-yard box three minutes later, and only the Brazilian will know how he failed to score from Mata’s ball into the box two minutes before half time.
Worse was to come for Wolves in the second half with Chelsea taking just eight minutes to go 4-0, Romeu smashing home from the spot after Victor Moses was fouled by De Vries.

Aston Villa shocked Manchester City to advance to the fourth round of the League Cup with a 4-2 victory after extra time.
Villa had to come from behind twice in the game before Charles N'Zogbia and Gabriel Agbonlahor secured victory in extra time.

City had taken the lead in the first half through Mario Balotelli after excellent work from James Milner, but the club was pegged back when Gareth Barry put through his own goal after good work from Andreas Weimann.

A 20-yard free kick from Aleksandar Kolarov put the home side ahead five minutes later but Agbonlahor equalized for a second time to take the game into extra time where N'Zogbia and Agbonlahor won the game.

Roberto Mancini named 10 new faces from the side held by Arsenal, with only Joleon Lescott retaining his place and that only after Jack Rodwell picked up an injury in the warmup.

Carlos Tevez and Balotelli both started with Denis Suarez and Adbul Razak two youngsters given the chance to shine for the first team. Villa also made changes but nowhere near as many, with Shay Given replacing Brad Guzan in goal and Gabriel Agbonlahor recalled to lead the line for the visitors.

The terrible Manchester weather made conditions tough for both sides in the opening half and chances were at a real premium, with the majority of the game being played between the two penalty areas.

In the 10th minute Villa had the best chance of the opening exchanges as Agbonlahor decided to test Costel Pantilimon with a long-range skidding effort from 25 yards.

The Romanian pushed the ball away but only as far as Andreas Weimann, he rolled the ball into the unmarked Christian Benteke however the Belgian couldn’t convert as he slid in to meet the Austrian’s pass.

City made Villa pay for that miss in the 27th minute although it was given a lot of help from the poor marking from the visitors defense.

Tevez sprayed a lovely cross field pass to Milner, and he cut inside onto his left foot before finding Balotelli unmarked inside the penalty area and he made no mistake in smashing the ball past City old-boy Shay Given.

The second half began just as the first had done with neither side dominating the game and the general play lacking that zip needed to bring the game to life.

However just before the hour Villa got itself an equalizer that sparked the game into life. Weimann was released down the right hand side and was allowed to deliver a dangerous low cross into the six yard area, there was no Villa player nearby but Pantilimon pushed the cross into Barry and the ball looped over the line.

Ironically that brought City back to life and within four minutes it was ahead again as Kolarov fired in one of his trademark free kicks.

Balotelli made an excellent run down the right channel but was brought down just outside the area, Kolarov won the rights to take the set piece and it proved the right decision as he fired past Given from 20 yards.

Villa was not finished though and in the 70th minute it was level again this time through Agbonlahor. A neat build up from the visitors saw the ball break free and the striker raced onto it and calmly fired past Costel Pantilimon from the edge of the penalty area.

Neither side was able to break the deadlock inside the 90 minutes so the game entered extra time and five minutes in Villa took the lead for the first time in the game. Costel Pantilimon should have done better with a low Agbonlahor shot, but he could only parry the ball into open space inside his penalty area and N'Zogbia was first to the ball to roll it home.

In the second half of extra time Villa confirmed its place in the fourth round as Agbonlahor scored his second goal of the game, with the ball looping up off Pantilimon and into the bottom corner of the net.

ULAYA YASITISHA MISAADA RWANDA

Waasi wa M23

Muungano wa Ulaya umeamua kusitisha msaada kwa Rwanda.

Uamuzi wa Muungano huo umefikiwa kufuatia ripoti ya baraza la usalama la Umoja huo iliyodai kwamba Rwanda inaunga mkono waasi wa M23 dhidi ya serikali ya Congo.

Waasi hao wanadhibiti kimabavu sehemu kubwa ya Mashariki mwa Jamuhuri ya Kidemokrasia ya Congo na hata kuwatoza kodi wananchi.

Kundi hilo lilianza uasi katika eneo hilo mwezi Aprili na kusababisha takriban watu nusu milioni kukimbilia usalama wao.

Lakini Rwanda imeendelea kukana madai hayo.

Umoja wa Mataifa unafanya mkutano na baadhi ya yatakayopewa kipaombele kwenye mkutano huo ni swala la mgogoro huo Mashariki mwa Congo.

Mapema mwezi Julai Marekani ilizuia dola 200,000 zilizokusudiwa kulisaidia jeshi la Rwanda.

Msaada wenyewe uliokatwa siyo mkubwa kwa jeshi la Rwanda, lakini hatua hiyo ilitoa ishara kubwa.

Kwa kukata msaada huo, Marekani ni kama ilikuwa inasema "tunaamini ripoti kuwa Rwanda inatibua usalama wa kanda hiyo kwa kuwaunga mkono wapiganaji wa Congo".

Mwezi Juni ,Umoja wa Mataifa ulikabidhi ripoti kwa Baraza la Usalama, ambayo ilisema ina ushahidi mzito kuwa Rwanda inalipatia kundi la M23, 

wapiganaji na zana, na kurahisisha makamanda wao wakubwa kusafiri na kuvuka mpaka baina ya Congo na Rwanda.

Uasi huo ulianza mwezi wa Aprili, wakati wanajeshi mia kadha wa jeshi la Congo walipofanya ghasia.

Uasi huo uliongozwa na Jenerali Bosco Ntaganda, ambaye anasakwa na Mahakama ya Jinai ya Kimataifa, ICC, kwa uhalifu wa kivita.

Nayo serikali ya Uholanzi ilisitisha msaada wa dola milioni 6.15 kwa Rwanda baada ya nchi hiyo kuhusishwa na madai hayo ingawa baadaye ilianza tena kutoa msaada kwa nchi hiyo baada ya serikali ya Rwanda kuahidi kushirikiana na kukomesha vita hivyo.

Ulinzi umedhbitia katika nchi nyingi za kiisilamu huku zikijiandaa kwa maandamano makubwa hii leo baada ya maombi ya Ijumaa.

Maandamano hayo yanapinga filamu iliyotengezwa nchini Marekani kumkejeli Mtume Muhammad na dini ya kiisilamu.

Waziri mkuu mpya wa Ethiopia Hailemariam Desalegn, ameapishwa kuchukua wadhifa wa hayati Meles Zenawi aliyeitawala nchi hiyo kwa miaka 21.

Mwingine aliyeapishwa ni naibu wake Demeke Mekonen, ambaye alikuwa anashikilia wadhifa wa waziri wa elimu.

Bwana Hailemariam Desalegn, amenukuliwa na shirika la habari la AFP akisema kuwa ana furaha kuchukua wadhifa huo na yuko tayari kufanya majukumu yake kwa kujitolea.

Hailemariam aliungwa mkono bila pingamizi na bunge la waakilishi ambalo lina wanachama wengi wa muungano tawala kuchukua wadhifa huo.

Sherehe ya kumuapisha waziri mkuu huyo iliendeshwa na rais wa mahakama ya juu zaidi nchini humo, Tegene Getaneh na kuonyeshwa moja kwa moja kupitia televisheni ya taifa.

Rais Dk Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete akiweka jiwe la msingi kuashiria kuzindua rasmi ujenzi wa Daraja la Kigamboni katika hafla iliyofanyika huko Kurasini jijini Dar es Salaam leo mchana. Kushoto ni Waziri wa Ujenzi Dk John Pombe Magufuli na wa pili kulia ni Mkurugenzi Mkuu wa NSSF Dk Ramadhani Dau. NSSF itagharamia asilimia 60 za ujenzi wa daraja hilo na serikali asilimia 40.

Rais wa Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania, Mheshimiwa Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete leo, Alhamisi, Septemba 20, 2012, ameweka Jiwe la Msingi la ujenzi wa Daraja la Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam kwa kuwaonya watu ambao amewaeleza kuwa wanavyo viwanda vya kutunga uongo kuacha tabia hiyo na kuelekeza nguvu kwenye maendeleo.
Aidha, Rais Kikwete amewahakikishia wakazi wote wa Kigamboni ambao wanaondolewa katika maeneo yao kwa ajili ya kupisha ujenzi wa daraja hilo na ujenzi wa Mji Mpya wa Kigamboni kuwa watalipwa stahili na haki zao zote.
Daraja hilo la Kigamboni ambalo wazo la kujengwa kwake lilibuniwa kwa mara ya kwanza zaidi ya miaka 30, tokea mwaka 1978, wakati wa uongozi wa Baba wa Taifa, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, linajengwa kwa gharama ya Sh. bilioni 214.6 na litakuwa tayari katika muda wa miezi 36 ijayo, ingawa muda huo unaweza kupungua na kubakia miezi 30.
Daraja hilo ambalo litakuwa na urefu wa mita 680 linagharimiwa kwa pamoja na Serikali na Shirika la Hifadhi ya Jamii la NSSF ambalo litachangia kiasi cha asilimia 60 na Serikali asilimia 40.
Daraja hilo ambalo litakuwa na jumla ya barabara za kupitisha magari sita kwa wakati mmoja linajengwa na makampuni mawili ya China ambayo ni China Railway Construction Engineering Group na China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Company na mhandisi msimamizi wa ujenzi huo ni Kampuni ya Misri.
Daraja hilo litapunguza adha ya usafiri kati ya Kigamboni na Dar es Salaam ambao kwa sasa unategemea vivuko, ama boti ndogo, mitumbwi ama wenye magari kulazimika kufanya mzungumo wa kilomita 52. Kwa uamuzi wa sasa, wavuka kwa miguu ambao watakuwa na njia maalum kwenye daraja hilo pamoja na waendesha baiskeli watavuka bure bila malipo yoyote.
Akizungumza kwenye sherehe hiyo, Rais Kikwete amesema kuwa Serikali haiwezi kudhulumu wananchi wake na hivyo watu wote ambao wanastahili fidia kutokana na ujenzi wa daraja hilo na mji mpya wa Kigamboni watalipwa haki na stahiki zao.
Aidha, Rais Kikwete amesema kuwa Serikali yake haitaruhusu mtu yoyote kuzuia ama kuchelewesha miradi ya maendeleo ambayo inalenga kunufaisha watu wengi.
Rais Kikwete pia amewaonya watu ambao wamelifanya suala la kutunga na kusema uongo kama sehemu ya utamaduni wao. “Watu wana viwanda vya kuzalisha uongo. Wanashinda wanasambaza uongo kwenye mitandao, kila mahali. Wamepata hata kusema kuwa mimi nimemuuzia George Bush eneo la Kigamboni. Bush aje kufanya nini Kigamboni?”
Rais pia amesema kuwa wapo watu ambao hawapendi maendeleo ya nchi. “Wanatamani kila siku tushindwe kuwaletea wananchi maendeleo. Lakini watakufa kwa kihoro kwa sababu hatutashindwa. Kila tulilosema tutalifanya, litafanyika”.
Amesema kuwa thamani kubwa ya vyama vya siasa ni maendeleo ya wananchi. “Lakini wapo wenzetu ambao wanaudhika wakiona maendeleo. Wanapenda hata daraja hili lisijengwe. Leo hawatalala usingizi. Kazi ya vyama vya siasa ni kuweka maslahi yetu sote mbele.”

Shambulizi la bomu Somalia

Mshambuliaji wa kujitoa mhanga ameuawa katika shambulizi la bomu ambalo limetokea mjini Mogadishu na kuwaua watu 14.

Shambulizi hilo limetokea karibu na mkahawa mmoja mjini Mogadishu. 

Walioshuhudia tukio hilo wamesema kuwa watu kadhaa wamejeruhiwa.

Hadi sasa hakuna kundi lolote limeelezea kufanya shambulizi hilo.

Shambulizi la leo linatokea wakati majeshi ya Somalia yanakaribia kuuzingira mji wa Kismayo ambayo ni ngome kubwa na ya mwisho ya Al Shabaab.

Shirika la umoja wa mataifa la kuwahudumia wakimbizi UNHCR limeelezea kuongezeka kwa idadi ya watu wanaotoroka mji wa Kismayo ambao sasa wanafikia zaidi ya elfu moja kila siku.

Mwandishi wa BBC mjini Mogadishu, Ibrahim Aden, ameelezea kuona zaidi ya miili sita katika mkahawa huo ambao uko mkabala na ukumbi wa michezo ya kuigiza baada ya shambulizi.

Koplo Isack Mkaguzi wa magari katika jeshi la polisi Trafiki akimhoji mmoja wa madereva wa magari makubwa wakati alipokuwa akikagua gari aina hili lililokuwa likitokea nchini Congo DRC ambako lilipeleka mafuta, kulia ni Tunu akishiriki katika zoezi la ukaguzi wa magari, kikosi cha Trafiki kinaendesha zoezi la ukaguzi wa magari yote na kuyapa stika maalum zinazonyesha kuwa yamekaguliwa katika kuadhimisha wiki ya Nenda kwa Usalama Barabarani ambapo mwaka hu kauli mbiu ya mwaka huu ni “PAMBANA NA AJALI ZA BARABARANI KWA VITENDO, ZINGATIA SHERIA”

Ukaguzi huo umefanyika katika eneo la Ipogolo mjini Iringa kwenye barabara kuu ya Dar es salaam -Tunduma ambako maadhimisha hayo yanafanyika kitaifa.

Koplo Isack Mkaguzi wa magari katika jeshi la polisi Trafiki akumuandikia Stika mmoja wa madereva wa Daladala mkoani Iringa mara baada ya kukagua gari hilo.

Stafu Sajenti Yohana Mjema akilikagua Roli lenye namba T 456 ADQ lililokuwa limebeba matofali katika zoezi la ukaguzi wa magari kuadhimisha wiki ya nenda kwa usalama Barabarani, kulia ni Afande Tunu akishiriki katika zoezi hilo.

Mabasi yaliyokuwa yakitokea mkoani Iringa yakipita mbele ya maafisa wa usalama barabarani wakati wa ukaguzi wa magari katika wiki ya Nenda kwa usalama Mkoani Iringa.

Koplo Isack na Afande Tunu wakizikagua pikipiki zilizokuwa zikipita katika eneo la Ipogolo mjini Iringa katika barabara ya Dar es salaam Tunduma wakati wa ukaguzi wa magari leo.

RUFAA YA LEMA YASOGEZWA MBELE MPAKA OKTOBA 2, 2012

 

Godbless Lema akiwasili viwanja vya Mahakama Kuu Arusha kusikiliza rufaa yake mapema leo asubuhi.

 

Sehemu ya umati wa wakazi wa Arusha waliofika eneo la Mahakama Kuu kusikiliza rufaa hiyo.

Shauri lililofunguliwa na aliekuwa Mbunge wa Arusha Mjini, Mh Godbless Lema kukata rufaa katika Mahakama ya Rufaaa nchini kupinga kuenguliwa kwake kuwa mbunge limeahirishwa hadi tarehe 2 mwezi ujao litakaposikilizwa tena.
 
Mapema asubuhi ya leo mamia ya wafuasi wa Chadema walijitokeza katika eneo la Mahakama Kuu kusikiliza rufaa hiyo ambayo ilisikilizwa kwa muda mrefu kiasi kabla ya kuahirishwa.
 
Taarifa za awali kutoka mahakamani hapo kabla ya kusikilizwa kwa shauri hilo hii leo zilieleza kuwa tayari mawakili wa pande zote mbili walishaandika barua ya kuomba kusogezwa mbele kwa shauri hilo hadi Oktoba 2, mwaka huu, 
kufuatia mawakili, Tundu Lissu, anayemtetea Lema na kaka yake, Alute Mughwai, anayewatetea walalamikaji, kufiwa na baba yao mzazi.
 
Imeelezwa kuwa, upande wa walalamikaji wameweka mapingamizi fulani ambayo jopo la majaji litayapitia hiyo tarehe 2 oktoba. Taarifa nyingine ambayo haijaweza kuthibitishwa na Blog hii zinaeleza kwamba kuna uwezekano mkubwa kwa hukumu ya rufaa hii kusomwa Dar es Salaam...

Mariedo kuwavika magauni, viatu vya kisasa

MALKIA atakayetwaa taji la Redd’s Miss Temeke 2012 katika shindano linalofanyika Ijumaa Sept 21 katika ukumbi wa PTA (SabaSaba Hall), atajinyakulia zawadi zinazofikia milioni 1.5 sanjari na tiketi ya moja kwa moja kushiriki shindano la Redd’s Miss Tanzania baadaye mwaka huu.

Katika mlolongo huo wa zawadi, mshindi wa kwanza atajinyakulia fedha taslim Sh. Milioni 1. Mshindi wa pili atajinyakulia fedha taslim Sh.laki nane wakati mshindi wa tatu atapata Sh. Laki saba na washindi wote watatu kila mmoja atajipatia nguo ya kutokea jioni sanjari na viatu, vikiwa na thamani ya kila mmoja Sh. Laki  5.

Duka la kisasa la Mariedo Boutique itatoa gauni la Sh.350,000 na kiatu cha Sh 150,000 kila mmoja kwa washindi hao watatu wa kwanza watakaoshinda. 

Mbali ya washindi hao, mshindi wa nne atajinyakulia kitita cha Sh. 400,000 ambapomshindi wa tano  ataondoka na Sh 300,000 wakati warembo wengine wote watakaosalia kila mmoja atapata Sh.200.000.

Ikiwa ni funga dimba ya mashindano ya urembo ya kanda nchini, shindano hilo litanogeshwa na wasanii wanaong’ara katika luninga, Mpoki wa kundi la 

Komed Original na Steve Nyerere ambaye mbali ya kuigiza sauti za watu mbalimbali, pia ametoa filamu kadhaa kwa siku za hivi karibuni.

Mbali ya wasanii hao, bendi ya Mashujaa Musica,yenye wanamuziki nguli kama Charles Baba, MCD, Ferguson, Ali Akida sanjari na wanennguaji kama Lilian Internet na wengineo pia itanogesha usiku huo.

Taji la Redd's Miss Temeke, linashikiliwa na mrembo Husna Twalib. Warembo wa Miss Temeke wamekuwa wakijifua kwa wiki tatu sasa chini ya ukufunzi wa Leyla Bhanji, ambaye amekuwa akisaidiwa pia na warembo wa miaka ya nyuma wa Miss Temeke akiwemo, Regina Mosha(20020, Hawa Ismail(2003), washiriki wa mwaka jana Joyce Maweda, Mwajabu Juma, Cynthia Kimasha na katika shoo wamekuwa na Dickson Daud kutoka kundi la THT.

Shoo ya ufunguzi itakuwa tofauti kabisa na shoo nyingine yeyote iliyowahi kuyanyika nchini, kwani imezingatia zaidi urembo na nini msichana anatakiwa kufanya na si unenguaji tu. Warembo 15 wanatoka katika vitongoji vya Kigamboni, Kurasini na Chang'ombe ambapo kila sehemu wametoka warembo watano ambapo washindi watatu wa kwanza watapata fursa ya moja kwa moja kushiriki Redds Miss Tanzania 2012.

Warembo hao ni Agness Goodluck, Angela Gasper, Flaviana Maeda,Edna Sylvester, Catherine Masumbigana, Khadija Kombo, Neema Doreen, Flora Kazungu, Lilian Joseph, Elizabeth Peter, Elizabeth Boniphace, Jesca Haule, Zulfa Bundala, Mariam Ntakisivya na Esther Albert.

Mbali ya Redd's, Miss Temeke 2012 pia imedhaminiwa na City Sports Lounge, Jambo Leo, Mariedo Boutique, Global Publishers, Dodoma Wine, Push Mobile,  Mariedo Boutique, 100.5 Times FM, Kitwe General Traders, Fredito Entertainment, katejoshy.blogsport.com na 88.4 Cloud's FM.

Temeke imewahi kutwaa taji la Miss Tanzania mara tatu, kupitia warembo Happiness Sosthenes Magesse aka Millen mwaka 2001, Sylvia Remmy Baham mwaka 2003 na Genevieve Mpangala. Lakini pia imetoa warembo waliowahi kushika nafasi ya pili na tano bora katika Miss Tanzania kama Jokate Mwegelo, Irene Uwoya, Irene Kiwia, Queen David, Cecylia Assey, Sabrina Slim, Miriam Odemba, Ediltruda Kalikawe na Asela Magaka.
